Lately…

Not going to lie, week 34 started off with a whole lot of anxiety regarding the to-do list, and every nook and cranny of my house looked — to me — as if it it needed “fixing” or at least fixed-up. So, if this is what nesting looks like, this house stands no chance.

the "office" after a nice little saturday afternoon spent with me

However, “nesting” — I’m still not sure this is nesting — has proved beneficial in some aspects.

Purchased. Repurposed mid-century sideboard as dresser/changing table from great local store, Oxenrose. Thanks to Johanna for the scouting and find.

Love.

Arrived. Baby’s first Twiggy painting πŸ™‚

Twiggy!

it's all in the details

For those of you keeping track: 1 rug, 1 crib, 1 chair, 1 dresser, 1 painting — I consider that a pretty well-outfitted nursery.

The guest bedroom was finally outfitted with a mirror and a mattress pad. (it’s the small things that make me feel better). And the office — well, yeah, it still looks like that first photo.

For good measure, here is the pup who has no idea what is going to hit her in 5 weeks. Though, I think Bill and I have that same look.

what? i'm not the favorite anymore?

7 Saturdays

There are 7 Saturdays between now and when Baby H is due. In the meantime, we are staying super busy – and almost up to date – with the to-do list.

New, 4-door family car. Check.

Subi the Subaru

"family" approved

Subi the Subaru joined us last weekend, I’ve been so kind as to let Bill drive it for these next 7 Saturdays, then she is all mine πŸ™‚Β  If we didn’t feel like “grown-ups” before, we sure do now!

ready to go

Car seat installed in Subi. Check.

Okay, I guess that is all we crossed off the list, but it sure seems like a lot!

And… the progression of baby bump…

33 weeks - it looks more uncomfortable than it is!

April is going to be a packed month — my mom and sister are hosting a shower on the 16th and we invited people from near and far. From dearest friends to people who knew me when I was 10 and babysitting their kids, to family — to all of whom “far” is just a word — I’m amazed that so many people are traveling from out of town to celebrate Baby H! And, to top it off, I get to spend extra quality time with my dear friend Jacki who will be staying with us that weekend πŸ™‚ Β  Kim, we’ll miss you, but can’t wait for you and Brandon to visit on Easter weekend!

Single digits

As of March 19, we’ve entered single digits – well at least in the week version of the countdown – 9 weeks to go. Wha? How did that happen?!? Must. start. purchasing.

Decision was made a couple of weeks ago to buckle down and join a birthing class. With the intent of having a natural birth, we signed up for the Bradley method classes. Otherwise known as “Bill, in order for this to work you must become a master in massage and relaxation techniques” and “Sarah, simmer down”. Well, if it doesn’t end up working on “due date” the man and I will have learned some valuable skills and we will consider it money well spent!

Baby bump keeps on growing, and am beginning to suspect that yoga pants will be in the ‘wear to work’ rotation as well as the weekend rotation from here on out.

In other news, I experienced baby’s first hiccup fit this morning around 4 am – let the interrupted sleep begin πŸ™‚

Celebrating 30 weeks

What a way to spend a 60 degree day and the baby’s 30-week milestone! Baby Hauer was showered with love and books while surrounded by tea, egg & cress sandwiches, scones, and loads of delightful sweets.

People were caught sipping out of proper teacups – two handed and single handed versions – , snacking off silver platters and eating through the last bunch of watercress in Louisville (thanks Holly, it was worth it!). It was the best kind of uppity. Of course there was chocolate digestive biscuits to bring it home for the English “commoner”.

Thanks to all who attended and to those who couldn’t make it but sent their wishes. Special thanks to the hostesses with the mostest: Shareen, Val and Johanna. With every detail accounted for, I can only imagine the planning and thought that went into creating such a day.

More pictures to come!

Babymoon

4 days of Excellence Riveria Cancun with fabulous friends, Billy and Johanna. Our second time at an all-inclusive, the first at an “adults-only”. Grandparents start signing up now, cause I think I’ve bought into this brand of vacation.

All the alcohol and fruit juice (highly recommend mango — mango loco, mango daiquiri, mango drink of the day — I sampled them all) one could ask for and they restocked the mini-fridge with M&Ms daily to keep up with my unhealthy consumption of said chocolate.

The star of the show was the 27 week old baby bump. Thanks to its Daddy’s fine purchase of a ridiculously cute bathing suit, I felt presentable enough to show it off poolside.

Poolside with various mango concoctions

And of course, Bill enjoyed the “real” drinks for the two of us πŸ™‚

2 for me.

Big thanks to Billy and Johanna for tagging along and making it that much more fun! Let it be said on record that Billy and I finally won a best out of three Euchre game.

It was the perfect getaway to celebrate “us” before baby Hauer arrives.

Babymoon = highly recommended.

25 Weeks

The baby bump has arrived; and I have a feeling it isn’t going anywhere for a while. And for now, I’m still feeling cute enough to show it off πŸ™‚

And, yes, I am still avoiding maternity pants at all costs, thank goodness leggings made a comeback.

Progress

Progress. This post has pictures. Progress. The “baby’s room” is now beginning to look like a place one would call a nursery. Thanks to a well-timed trip to IKEA and some peer-pressure from Bill regarding a large rug from Lowe’s it seems we are making progress beyond paint color.

Baby's Eye View

So far our myΒ approach to becoming parents has been “we don’t need that”, so it seems the kid may feel like it is growing up in a 1950’s Soviet household with an eco-friendly twist i.e. it won’t have much, but the stuff it does have will be ridiculously overpriced and the landfills, as well as, our great-grandchildren will thank us. Progress.

We’re having a baby!

I suppose this means it’s official? But, yes, it’s true, Baby Hauer is well on its way. Only God and the Ultrasound Tech know the gender, the rest of us will find out on the birthday. Due date is May 21, 2011, which puts me just shy of 23 weeks as of today.

We’re excited, anxious and blessed to begin this journey of parenthood and hope you’ll find some enjoyment out of following our antics via the blog. I hope you’re ready, cause I’m not sure we are πŸ™‚

A quick note of thanks to our sponsors – Glenn Goodman and Scott Schroeder – their donation of $18 and the countless priceless creative hours have forcefully propelled (Aviation pun intended) this little family of 3 to the blogosphere.

And, yes, this blog post is circa 1999 – no pictures, no videos – not yet. Bear with me.
